Sintered stone is the ultimate choice for homeowners and architects who require a surface that performs flawlessly under the most extreme conditions.
Because there are no polymer resins in the slab, sintered stone is completely impervious to heat. You can confidently place boiling saucepans, hot roasting tins and slow cookers directly onto the surface without any fear of thermal shock or scorch marks.
Sintered stone is entirely UV stable and frost resistant. The colours will never fade or yellow in direct sunlight, making it the undisputed leading material for outdoor kitchens, alfresco dining areas and barbecue surrounds.
The extreme density of an ultra-compact surface makes it one of the hardest materials available on the global market. While we always advise using a chopping board to protect your knives, the stone itself is exceptionally difficult to scratch.
Moving away from standard high-gloss finishes, sintered stone excels in highly tactile, matte aesthetics. The ranges include incredibly realistic rusted corten steel, industrial concretes and deeply textured natural stone effects.
The immense pressure used during the sintering process ensures the final slab has absolute zero porosity. Liquids, oils and bacteria simply cannot penetrate the surface. Furthermore, because it contains no resins, sintered stone is highly resistant to harsh chemicals. Stubborn stains from bleach, marker pens, red wine or concentrated citrus juices can be wiped away effortlessly, leaving the surface perfectly hygienic and requiring absolutely no specialist sealing.

They are very closely related, but they are not exactly the same. Both use similar raw materials, but sintered stone incorporates a wider variety of minerals (like quartz and glass) and is subjected to significantly higher heat and pressure. This creates a denser, tougher and more durable slab specifically engineered for heavy-duty worktop use.
While the top surface is practically indestructible and highly scratch-resistant, the extreme density of the material means that sharp, square edges can be susceptible to chipping if struck hard by heavy cast-iron pots. To prevent this, our Stevenage fabrication team highly recommends choosing a slightly bevelled or rounded edge profile to soften the impact point.
Because sintered stone is so incredibly hard, it creates unique challenges in the workshop. Our stonemasons must use highly specialised diamond-tipped tooling and run our CNC machines at much slower speeds to cut and polish the slabs safely. This meticulous, time-intensive fabrication process is reflected in the final price.
